Global investment manager Barings has bought Australia-based Altis Property Partners as it looks to break into the Asian real estate investment market.
Under the terms of the signed share sale agreement, Barings will acquire 100% of the Sydney-based real estate firm.
The deal is a significant boost to Barings’ regional property team, adding 44 real estate and equity specialists and A$6.1 billion in assets under management.
In addition, the Altis executive directors and staff will remain with the firm following the acquisition, which is expected to be completed in September 2022.
The Asia-Pacific market currently makes up around a third of Barings’ third-party AuM.
Charles Weeks, Barings head of Europe and APAC real estate, said: “This acquisition will help further build out our real estate platform in Asia Pacific, with a focus on Australia before expanding into other markets such as Japan and Korea over time.”
