King Lun Au, who recently left Eastspring Investments after a year at the company, will join Value Partners as chief executive.
In his new role, Au will handle business and corporate affairs for the Hong Kong-based firm, reporting to chairman Cheah Cheng Hye.
"We've seen China turn into a major exporter of capital to the world, from an importer, and this presents a historic opportunity for Value Partners, which has the brand, resources and industry track record to take full advantage of the situation," said Cheah in a statement.
Au joined Eastspring in 2015, tasked with building up the company's Hong Kong business with a focus on cross-border activity with China. He had previously spent five years as chief executive of the asset management division of Bank of China Hong Kong.
A member of Hong Kong's Financial Services Development Council, Au is also on the advisory committee of the Securities and Futures Commission, Hong Kong's regulator.
A physicist by training, Au has an undergraduate degree from Oxford University and a PhD from Durham University.
