Manulife Asset Management has hired Murray Collis as its head of fixed income in Singapore, in charge of the firm's local bond fund managers.
Collis joins from Standish Mellon Asset Management where he was head of Asian fixed income, also based in Singapore. He previously spent 16 years at First State Investments.
In his new role, Collis will report to Endre Pedersen, chief investment officer for fixed income in Asia ex-Japan, and Wendy Lim, chief executive of Manulife Asset Management Singapore.
“Singapore is one of the leading fixed-income centres in Asia,” said Pedersen. “As the slow growth and low interest-rate environment looks to remain for a period of time, we continue to be committed to identifying investment solutions in the Singapore and Asian fixed-income space.”
Asia accounts for 19% of the $334 billion under management by Manulife Asset Management, which is part of the Manulife Financial Group. The US accounted for 52% of its assets and the firm's home market of Canada accounted for 28%, as of June 30.
