Japan's largest asset manager, Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Group (Sumi Trust), has named veteran employee Yoshio Hishida to lead global business development.
Hishida, who joined the company in 1986, is tasked with building new client relationships outside the firm's home market.
In a statement, he said “we aim to capitalise on our expertise and continue expanding our presence globally”.
After working as a portfolio manager in the global equities team, Hishida served as an investment officer between 1999 and 2004 and later had a number of executive roles. He is director of the Securities Analysts Association of Japan.
Sumi Trust, which was formed by the merger of Chuo Mitsui Trust Holdings and Sumitomo Trust & Banking, had $727 billion under management at the end of March.
