GIC joins forces with Polymer Connected for data centre project

Server roomSingapore’s sovereign wealth fund GIC has partnered with Polymer Connected to develop a data centre campus in Jakarta. It will be Indonesia’s first green data centre, utilising the city’s natural gas network to produce electricity. “With a population of 575 million, 350 million internet users and 390 million active mobile users, Southeast Asia’s digital economy is forecasted to triple to $240bn by 2025,” said Polymer Connected chief executive Darren Hawkins. “Data centres represent the backbone of this movement,” he added. Through this partnership, the data centre provider has acquired the land to build the campus - its first campus in Indonesia – which will be built to international standards and include tier 3 and tier 4 data centre facilities. Established in 1981, GIC has more than $100 billion in assets under management. ©2019 funds global asia
